    envoi:      ABCDE

The following poem is written in this last format. Title: Playing Games(#11, 781)

The sun and sky, teasing the small clouds at play,
Ephemeral as the mist, they do not stay
The children call and sing short songs as they play.
The deer and livestock call each other to play.
I wonder if nature’s always been this way?
Are we so grownup, we forget then to play?
There are many ways, manners, and rules to play.
Some wish for night, others play while it is day.
Is it not better to see with light of day?
The warmth of good feelings when in sunshine’s ray
Or do you prefer playing in flashlight’s ray?
Inside or outside? Where do you like to play?

War games can use swords, guns, or a deadly ray
While serious business, it is still called play.
Sneak around at nighttime or in daylight’s ray
On the streets? Beware a car’s head lighted ray
When running at night, the sidewalk please to stay.
Be aware of dangers lit by sunbeam’s ray
Or cast in shadow revealed in moonbeam’s ray.
If exercise is not something of your way
Then intellectual games may be your way.
Whether outside or safely lit in lamp’s ray
You can have a truly enjoyable day
Applying the principles of a play day.

What game can then be played on a sunny day?
Are there games for winter’s glow or summer’s ray?
Are there games for a cloudy or rainy day?
Are there games designed for night and for the day?
Yes, there are many different games to play.
You can make some up even during the day.
The games people play show up every day.
The rules may sometimes change, they don’t have to stay
But the principles behind the rules must stay.
Some games can be played at night or in the day
Some games can only be played in just one way
While other games can be played in any way.

So many games, so choose and have it your way
Play your game now and have a most pleasant day.
Some break the rules because cheating is their way
For others though, it’s truly not the best way.
They hold up as a lamp the light of truth’s ray.
The games they play show there is only one way
For their games they then see it is the right way.
People have lost count of all the games to play
There are too many. You must choose which to play.
Which ones to play? Go on and choose it your way.
When winning that may be the best time to stay
Unless you want ot have your friendship to stay.

Some game don’t matter for the friendship to stay
Some games so important, they get in the way
Of friendship. Don’t play if you want them to stay.
Some are true friends, no matter the game, they’ll stay
Some games can be played until the break of day
Some games last longer. So how long can you stay?
If you don’t mind staying the night, you can stay.
After playing all night  til the dawning ray
You may not feel like being in sunshine’s ray.
You may want to have a room that you can stay
To rest in, so you can be ready to play
There is more to life than work or even play.

In Heaven, will there be enough games to play?
After all, forever’s a long time to stay.
Perhaps the games are designed a special way
So that they can last for eternity’s day.
Joyful playtime in God’s Heavenly Ray.

Day 121:

Oct 29-Canzonette Prime, Canzonette with ababcbcB, dbdbebeB. Title: Immortality calls
The stars, they want to be free, can’t you see?
The heavens groan, they are waiting for the day.
Entropy burdening the soul, can it flee?
Not until eternity rings itself away
The chimes shimmer, knowing it won’t be long.
The rainbow washes away the color gray
Music waits for the time to burst into song.
Immortality calls, “Souls, choose the right way!”

Temporal things won’t last long, soon they’ll take wing
The clash of thunder, enter into the fray!
Immortal weapons, they are what you should bring,
The armor of righteousness wear as you pray
For victory against the foe, who has lost
For God has won, now heaven’s here, now go play
In clouds, and rejoice in Him who paid the cost.
Immortality calls, “Souls, choose the right way!”

Day 120:

Oct 28-Hainteny, from Madagascar, uses metaphor, and allusion. Telescoping metaphors. Sometimes uses 2 Malagasy styles: Ohabolana(proverbs) and Kabary(public discourse) My first attempt. Title:There Are.
There are many animals
But the humble sheep is the most useful
There are many lands
But mine is the freest, more flocks, golden fruit
There are many loves
But God’s love is purest, a nurturing shepherd.

Day 119:

Oct 27-Canzonetta, short form Canzone variation at least. 2 phrases of 2 quatrains(octaves), ababcdcD, efefgdgD, D is rhymed Refrain. No fixed meter or line length.
A Canzonetta poem is a short form.
Not a Canzone, Sestina, or sonnet.
Two phrases of eight lines fighting out the storm.
Italian born and ancient as a bonnet.
No strict meter, or line length so take your time.
Start with ababcdc your way
Then add a refrain ending to make it rhyme.
A Canzonetta poem can make your day!

The next phase is to make another cool phrase
With efefgdg as lines to go
As you work on this, it might seem like a maze
But don’t forget the refrain to end the show.
You are almost through, isn’t it exciting?
Try your own hand in the Canzonetta fray
Maybe your attempt may be more inviting.
A Canzonetta poem can make your day!

Title: Life
What’s life without knowing one can die?
How does one know pleasure without pain?
Contrasts weigh in, the truth with a lie
There is sunshine and also the rain.

One is born, then dies, on this rely
Mortality belongs to all
So what can one do? Do we just sigh?
Remember the words and heed the call
What’s life without knowing one can die?

Life moves on, lumbering like a train
To live is to suffer, that is seen
Take pleasure in what does remain
Learn wisdom, survive with wit still keen
How does one know pleasure without pain?

Eternity calls, behold its’ cry
The soul is not for this earth alone
Destruction beckons, this fact imply
Prepare for the future, from sin atone
Contrasts weigh in, the truth with a lie

Balance in life, without it’s insane
Observe both good and bad, health and ill
Love and hate, chaos, order remain
Make the best in the moments you fill
There is sunshine and also the rain.

Just what it is that you desire from me?

For fear this love will fetter you, but see
How willingly you made a slave of me.
Enslaved by love, I crave it still, tis true
With just a look, you know not what you do
To trap me willingly in loving you.

I’ll stay as long as I can be with you.
I’ll never want to be from you set free.
Forever will I love you, you will see,
In spite of fears, or angered spats, I do,
Love is stronger than life’s storms, it’s true.

Title: the music of the spheres delight the soul
Oh hear the sounds before the dawn of day!
Harmoniously row upon a row
The silly strings how cosmic-like they play!
Melodiously chords warm head to toe
Compared to stellar brightly singing flame.
Creation calls beginning with its’ frame.
The stars reach out to sing along the tale.
The planets merely echo for they pale.
Each note thus plays their own harmonic role.
The universe thus calls for all to hail
The music of the spheres delight the soul.

The sun beats out the meter we’re to stay
Don’t wander off toward the night so low
But stay in warmth in water and in clay.
Befriended daylight covers us below
But what of chaos? Can we ever fail?
Oh yes! And failure causes songs to stale
But still we strive the target, try to aim.
Cacophony thus rise but then be-tame
The sound before the foes do cut the hole
Releasing purity and thus impale
The music of the spheres delight the soul.

The gentle show displays a single ray
To multitudes of light into a show
That sparkles bright to chase away the gray.
But what is this? What causes you to slow?
So snail can win and thus the hare defame
The tortoise beats the deer. Does it enflame
the gray that shows? Does sunlight now doth ail?
The storm approaches! Fiercely fight the gale!
Each precious soul Redeemer pays the toll
The song goes out for joy for ev’ry nail,
The music of the spheres delight the soul.

The Grace divine enshrined so all can pray
With joy the brightness of the sky aglow.
The galaxies, the nebulas all say
Rejoice, the Savior comes! Defeats the foe!
The mortal frame thus filled does make the claim
And proves the Word by healing all the lame.
Declare the news to all from hill and dale
To ev’ry creature, female and to male
Oh shout it out! And make it thus your goal,
From pole to pole, by land and sea to sail
The music of the spheres delight the soul.

The sound of saints defined thus keep at bay
Destructive demonics who mean us woe.
The praises of the star’s foundations lay
For us the power, telling evil “Go!”
For some our life is but a simple game,
For some our life is fortune or of fame.
For ev’ry moment life does hold detail,
The tiny speck of dust to massive whale
The eye of God designs it, makes it whole.
Until we cross beyond the shining veil
The music of the spheres delight the soul.

So sing along each star and comet’s tail.
Rejoice oh robin, join along oh quail!
All life from eagle down to smallest vole
To stars do harmonize and not to wail,
The music of the spheres delight the soul.

The hollow earth, whose bowels touch its’ heart
The depths explored reveal stalagmite tall
Spelunkers take the time before they start
Prepare for danger lest stalactite fall.

Cave conquerors connive
In darkness deep
In cramped quarters
For fun.

What spurs such people for the dangers stark
To winnow deep within the world’s cell walls
To search below the secrets of earth’s soul
The hollow earth, whose bowels touch its’ heart

Day 107:

Oct 15-Acrostic Sonnet, first letters make a phrase. Title: A Golden Silence
A golden silence beckons me to walk,
Galoshes grabbing earth before we seek
Of love, of peace, and we could only talk.
Line up the senses, scenery to peek.
Defensive nostrils, sneezing is your due.
Entirely covered nerves and skin depend
Not once but constant warms you through and through.
Serene the sound that carries out to send.
Indict the palette, tasting bright your role.
Laid up oh silence, that delightful pause,
Enhance the scene, yea presently the goal.
Not far from Heaven’s gates defends the cause.
Contain the peaceful sun and make it stay
Entrance the soul, you golden silent ray.

Day 106:

Oct 14-Caudette Sonnet, -standard sonnet with tail of 3 extra lines ghh.
So how to make a Caudette type sonnet?
It’s easy if you simply just know how.
The secret you must keep in your bonnet.
So are you ready? I will show you how.

Just take a sonnet like one from Shakespeare
Or make it up yourself  if you choose to.
So go and fill the poem without fear
And then you will surely be almost through.

Iambic pentameter the meter
Abab, cdcd you start
Efef, careful don’t peter
For you have a last phrase to then impart.

For ggghh then closes the frame.
So carefully craft or then take the blame.
Yes, thank you kindly for playing the game.

Both ancient and new.
Beware the dark brood.

Day 104:

Oct 12- Balanced/California Sonnet, ababcbc dedefef, Barbara Dilworth.
A balance is made by Dilworth. Her way
Is known as California rhyme scheme.
Just take two phrases of seven to play
Iambic pentameter work the theme.
With ababcbc to start
The poet Barbara Dilworth, a gleam
In eye, she splits the sonnet form apart.

She sometimes has a question posed for all
Then answered in the next poetic phrase.
The dedefef does call
The poet to lift the darkening haze
And close the sonnet with some dignity.
So now give Barbara Dilworth the praise
For making a Balanced Sonnet to see.

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Day 103:

Oct 11-Curtal Sonnet, abcabcdbcdc or abcabcdcbdc, by George Manley Hopkins. Most have last line as 6 or less syllables, usually 2.

The poet  Gerald Manley Hopkins writ
The Curtal Sonnet making it brand new
For others to follow the pattern now.
It’s abcabc, first to fit
Then dbcdc, so here’s your cue
Make sure the last line only half, and how?
Just six or less syllables work the line.
For some, it must be finally but two.
To ease the conscience of the critics, I’ll bow.
I’ll close this sonnet just their way. That’s fine.
Kapow!

Day 102:

Oct 10-Sculpham Sonnet, abccba abccba dd, by Peter Scupham.
The poet Peter Sculpham writes this way
To make a sonnet, stanzas made just right
First, abccba starting it
Repeat the stanza, try to make it fit.
While some may say tis not a true one, fight
Against those sonnet makers, I say NAY!

A Sculpham Sonnet tis one like some say
Iambic pentameter fits so tight
The phrases filled enraptured lines so writ
But critics wish all to follow Brit
The Bard himself, they claim has truer sight
So write his way, to keep the mob at bay.

A Sculpham closes with dd, you see
A Sculpham Sonnet strives to make one free!

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Day 101:

Oct 9-Petrarchan Sonnet, - abba abba then cdc dcd or cdc cde. By Petrarch, perfected love originally from Giacomo Lentini.
Other versions:cddcdd, cddece, cddcdd, cddede.
A love sonnet, Italian, you see
From Giacomo Lentini, you know
The inspiration love bequests to show
Petrarchan Sonnets model perfectly.

But Petrarch added more to make it free
The octave abba then does grow
Another abba to then sew
Your poem into something  shown with glee.

The octave followed by sestet reply
Add cdccde if you may
Or cdcdcd to say bye.
But if you choose another sestet, why
It’s fine to do. It’s flexible ,that’s why,
And now you know the Petrarchan Sonnet.

Day 100:

Oct 8-Zeugma,a descriptive definition involving comparing opposites. Can be used as a couplet form, or combined with another form with other descriptions such as metaphors and similes. For instance:

Day 99:

Oct 7-Spenserian Sonnet, abab bcbc cdcd ee. It typically is iambic pentameter
Spenserian type Sonnets are strange breeds
Four phrases work their way into the style.
Iambic Pentameter fill the deeds
To make poetic license with a smile.

Abab to start, still got awhile
Bcbc will move it to the break
Then take the next whole step in rank and file.
The syllables then count for poem’s sake.

Cdcd, you’re almost through, no fake.
Ee then follows, phrasing worth the wait
For Sonnet making, it’s a piece of cake.
Then close it with a couplet, shut the gate!

This special Sonnet is guaranteed true
Now try your luck and see what you can do.

Day 98:

Oct 6- Eugene Onegin Sonnet Form-ABAB,CCDD,EFFE,GG, using Iambic Pentameter. Title: Life
What likens life than Spring to Winter’s day?
The seasons bend for time to take its’ due.
The harvesting begun in its’ own way
Until the souls are ready, time is through.

From glorious beginnings we are born.
In strength we climb to heights sublime, then torn
By Nature’s entropy to pieces sharp
And Judgment comes, to pain or playing harp.

Cacophony or harmony our role
In life is shown Eternity’s bright door.
In how we live, in how we die, we store
The chains or gems, our future’s final goal.

So while the day so shin es endure the heat
In doing so, prepared when God you’ll meet.

Friday, October 5, 2012

Day 97:

Oct 5-Rondeau, French-aabba, aabRefrain, aabbaRefrain, 8 syllalbles, 4 for Refrain.
What is it that you have to say?
Writing a Rondeau the right way.
Now here is what you have to do
To make this French form work with you.
Then you can make one any day.

Eight syllables each line to stay
But the Refrain has four to play
Three phrases will then work your thoughts
It”s a Rondeau!

Aabba starts the day
Aab and  Refrain next weigh
Aabba gives a clue
To show how phrases work for you.
It”s a Rondeau!

Thursday, October 4, 2012

Day 96:

Oct 4-Luc Bat, from Vietnam.  6 & 8 syllables lines alternate. xxxxxA, xxxxxxAxB, xxxxxB, xxxxxBxC, etc. Title: Web of Life

What is the web of life?
How can there be such strife we see?
Just how can this thing be?
Is mortality fee as toll?
Strands attached to a soul.
We mortals have a role to play.
But do we have a say?
The spider has a way to go
To bring us mortals low.
Are we just flies so slow to wait
With fear, sealed is our fate?
Or ignoring the rate of breath
We consume before death.
As Adam begat Seth, the call
The web of life gives all.
The souls attached so small right now
God claims us all, and how!
Day 95:

Oct 3-Haiku-Sonnet, Haiku lines(5-7-5) rhyme according to the sonnet form. Abab cdcd efef gg. Title: This side of heaven.

This side of heaven. What is it about living? What meaning is life?
Is there a purpose? Philosophers argue this. Posturing? Useless.
Life is a battle. Satan’s minions are at war. Everything is strife.
Sickness and disease. Disasters are abundant. Satan is ruthless.

Is the Lord to blame? The final battle is won. Eternal glory.
A chance for us all. Worthy of the  courageous. The reward is peace.
Soldiers of the cross. Willing to defend the Lord. Part of the story.
Eternity calls. Resurrection of the dead. When all tears do cease.

Our purpose is clear. Faithful until death calls us. True soldier to fight.
So what else is there? Do we struggle for power? What about money?
It’s dust in the wind. Temporals that fade away. Heaven’s in our sight.
A place of pure joy. A land flowing with good things. Like milk and honey.

We’re not made for here. We’re made for eternity. Forget what has past.
This side of heaven. Briefly passing this old life. To one that will last.
