Oct 30-Canzone, Italian, stanzas written in 10- to 12-syllable lines without a refrain. Used 3 ways: tragic, comic, & elegiac.It is typically 8-20 lines. 5-6 stanzas. closing stanza has fewer lines.(1/2) 5-6 lines, called an envoy, a closing statement. Mostly uses couplets. No real rhyme scheme. Typically 11 syllable lines. Dante used his own: Abbcdeeccffcgg. Other poets use 5 keywords with 12 line stanzas and a 5 line envoy. stanza 1: ABAACAADDAEE

The sun and sky, teasing the small clouds at play,

Ephemeral as the mist, they do not stay
The children call and sing short songs as they play.
The deer and livestock call each other to play.
I wonder if nature’s always been this way?
Are we so grownup, we forget then to play?
There are many ways, manners, and rules to play.
Some wish for night, others play while it is day.
Is it not better to see with light of day?
The warmth of good feelings when in sunshine’s ray
Or do you prefer playing in flashlight’s ray?
Inside or outside? Where do you like to play?
 
War games can use swords, guns, or a deadly ray
While serious business, it is still called play.
Sneak around at nighttime or in daylight’s ray
On the streets? Beware a car’s head lighted ray
When running at night, the sidewalk please to stay.
Be aware of dangers lit by sunbeam’s ray
Or cast in shadow revealed in moonbeam’s ray.
If exercise is not something of your way
Then intellectual games may be your way.
Whether outside or safely lit in lamp’s ray
You can have a truly enjoyable day
Applying the principles of a play day.
 
What game can then be played on a sunny day?
Are there games for winter’s glow or summer’s ray?
Are there games for a cloudy or rainy day?
Are there games designed for night and for the day?
Yes, there are many different games to play.
You can make some up even during the day.
The games people play show up every day.
The rules may sometimes change, they don’t have to stay
But the principles behind the rules must stay.
Some games can be played at night or in the day
Some games can only be played in just one way
While other games can be played in any way.
 
So many games, so choose and have it your way
Play your game now and have a most pleasant day.
Some break the rules because cheating is their way
For others though, it’s truly not the best way.
They hold up as a lamp the light of truth’s ray.
The games they play show there is only one way
For their games they then see it is the right way.
People have lost count of all the games to play
There are too many. You must choose which to play.
Which ones to play? Go on and choose it your way.
When winning that may be the best time to stay
Unless you want ot have your friendship to stay.
 
Some game don’t matter for the friendship to stay
Some games so important, they get in the way
Of friendship. Don’t play if you want them to stay.
Some are true friends, no matter the game, they’ll stay
Some games can be played until the break of day
Some games last longer. So how long can you stay?
If you don’t mind staying the night, you can stay.
After playing all night  til the dawning ray
You may not feel like being in sunshine’s ray.
You may want to have a room that you can stay
To rest in, so you can be ready to play
There is more to life than work or even play.
 
In Heaven, will there be enough games to play?
After all, forever’s a long time to stay.
Perhaps the games are designed a special way
So that they can last for eternity’s day.
